Welcome to the Spring 2015 Edition of the CRB newsletter!
As the current president of the College of Reproductive Biology, it is my task to create a general piece for the newsletter. Well having just reviewed the 2014 American Society for Reproductive Medicine program, it became apparent to me, just how active CRB members are in the reproductive community. CRB members participated in all levels of the 70th annual meeting held in beautiful Honolulu, Oahu, Hawaii. While the meeting was fun to attend, the challenges of such a large gathering sometime interfere with really connecting with your colleagues.
The College of Reproductive Biology members create and execute a fantastic learning program each year too! Many of the participants have presented data in larger meetings such as ASRM or Society Study of Reproduction (SSR) or other larger scale meetings. One of the greatest advantages of our meeting is the intimacy afforded to participants. Keynote speakers and plenary lecturers are available and open to discussion with all participants. It is a fantastic way to begin creating a network for “newbies” and extending one’s network for seasoned veterans.
The annual program presented by the CRB takes a minimum of 15 months of behind the scenes work to put together. There are multiple logistics that have to be worked out and speakers to arrange and the executive members of the CRB do all of this work. This takes a great deal of time and dedication from all of the participants and the result has always been a super learning experience for our members. Our upcoming 2015 meeting is not different. Dr. Marina Gvakharia has worked tirelessly for some 18 months preparing the workshops and scientific program for the 2015 meeting. The call for abstracts has gone out and we strongly encourage all to participate with an abstract submission for an oral or poster presentation. Submitted abstracts are eligible for prizes too!
During the planning phase each year, the discussion arises about the location for future meetings. Meeting venues are selected many years in advance. As most of our regular readers know, we usually hold our meeting in Las Vegas, Nevada. This is not by accident. We really wish to keep the meeting affordable and Nevada offers both reasonable housing rates and easy airline access. We landed at the Red Rock Inn and Spa in 2014 and were more than pleasantly surprised at the facilities. They were beautiful, clean and new. Our meeting will be held there in 2015 and 2016. If you did not attend in 2015, this resort has a lot to offer as well as a great meeting venue. The casino is small, but perfect fun for friends to hang out. There is a spa for those who like to indulge and the Red Rock canyon is nearby for hiking.
Marina will be outlining some meeting highlights in this newsletter. I really want to encourage everyone to attend a CRB symposia, as they are truly great learning experiences.
