Wishing Tammie Schalue a Happy, and Well-Deserved, Retirement
After 19 years of service, Tammie Schalue, Ph.D., HCLD(ABB), is now enjoying her retirement! Dr. Schalue joined AAB/CRB in 2005 and, since the beginning of her tenure, her work has been instrumental in advancing the goals and missions of AAB/ABB/ABOR/CRB. Dr. Schalue served in many important capacities including coordination of ABB certification exams, organizing annual meeting and educational programs, writing and editing of the Andrology and Embryology Review Manual, and representing laboratory professionals at legislative and regulatory hearings, to name just a few.
Dr. Schalue’s impact is not limited to her work at AAB. After she earned her B.S. at the University of Missouri, and completed her Ph.D. and post-doctoral training at the University of Florida, she forged an impressive career that was impactful, in many ways, to the practice of Assisted Reproductive Technologies. Dr. Schalue was the Director of Laboratories for the Heartland Center for Reproductive Medicine (formerly the Center for Reproductive Medicine at the University of Nebraska Medical Center) in Omaha, Nebraska, for many years. Dr. Schalue was also a very active researcher as a PI or Co-PI on numerous research grants. From the development of a PCR program for Preimplantation Genetic Diagnosis, to determining how to perform ICSI in gorillas to advance species conservation efforts, to performing studies on the development of CASA systems, Dr. Schalue’s work has undoubtedly informed and improved our everyday laboratory practice.
Rightfully, Dr. Schalue was honored at the 2024 AAB Conference and CRB Symposium with the Lucien Dean Hertert Memorial Award, named for AAB’s first executive director, which was presented to Dr. Schalue for her steadfast commitment, dedication, loyalty, and service to both the organization and ART writ-large.
In her wake, Dr. Schalue leaves behind a legacy which is uniquely her own. ART professionals and infertility patients are all better off due to her work and we are honored to have benefited from her leadership for so many years. Now, after an impactful career, Dr. Schalue is enjoying her well-deserved retirement. We thank Dr. Schalue for her dedicated service and wish her many, many years of health and happiness in her retirement.
