2024 CRB Symposium Recap

I would like to thank all the people who helped me put the 2024 CRB meeting together. It was a great team (Charlene Alouf, Eva Schenckman, Matthew Hudnall, Jason Swain, Bill Venier, LeAnn Hampton and the rest of the AAB team). Charlene Alouf was instrumental in organizing the PGT talks and panel discussion on mosaicism. Jason Swain kindly stepped in to speak when another speaker had to cancel due to medical reasons. Matthew Hudnall graciously agreed to organize the roundtables again. All the speakers were on point and timely and the AAB team made it all possible. This was all a great group of people to work with. Thank you, thank you, thank you.

I would like to encourage everyone to get involved. Participating in national organizations provides an opportunity to expand one’s network and make new friends. Charlene has begun organizing the 2025 meeting and if you would like to help with her meeting or other upcoming meetings, the people to contact would be Charlene (charlene.alouf@gmail.com), or Melanie Clemmer (mclemmer@hsc.wvu.edu), or Matthew Hudnall (mhudnall@kent.edu). The organizers of the 2025, 2026, and 2027 meetings will be looking for people to present abstracts and give roundtables or talks.

LeAnn Hampton at AAB put together some statistics about the 2024 meeting for me:

"Over 400 laboratory professionals from reproductive and traditional clinical laboratories in the U.S. and abroad attended the AAB Educational Conference, CRB Symposium, and CRB Workshop held May 7-10, 2024, at the JW Marriott Las Vegas Resort & Spa. Over 330 people attended the 2024 CRB Symposium and the CRB Workshop drew 85 participants. Thirty-three companies sponsored the event."

Yaling Hew, an embryologist at Yale New Haven Health Systems in Greenwich, Connecticut, and Serena Kline, M.Sc., an embryologist at OU Health Reproductive Medicine, Oklahoma City, OK, received the inaugural CRB Diarmaid Douglas-Hamilton Memorial Scholarship Awards. Hamilton Thorne created the ongoing scholarship program in honor of the remarkable legacy of the late Diarmaid Douglas-Hamilton, chief technology officer, senior vice president of research and development, and co-founder of Hamilton Thorne. The scholarship awards support the attendance of young reproductive biologists in the CRB Symposium. What a wonderful way to honor Diarmaid Douglas-Hamilton and further the education and learnings of two young reproductive biologists.

The Abstract Program was a great success this year, with eight oral abstract presentations and 19 abstracts presented in poster format. Maya Ahluwalia, M.Sc., TS(ABB), and Cihan Halicigil, Ph.D., M.Sc., HCLD/TS(ABB), were the lead authors of the abstracts chosen to receive the 2024 Best Abstract Awards. Thank you to LifeAire Systems for funding the awards and for their continued support of the educational component of the AAB Conference/CRB Symposium.

There were 14 scientific roundtables on Wednesday, May 8, and 15 sponsor-supported scientific roundtables on Thursday, May 9.

The 2025 CRB Symposium, CRB Workshop, and AAB Educational Conference are scheduled for Tuesday-Friday, April 29-May 2, 2025, at the JW Marriott Las Vegas Resort & Spa, Las Vegas, Nevada.

Thank you all for attending this year’s meeting and we hope to see all of you next year in Vegas.

Marlane Angle, Ph.D., HCLD/CC(ABB)
Past President, 2024
